Producers in six northern Missouri counties may apply for assistance following June storms and tornadoes

WASHINGTON — Farmers in six northern Missouri counties may be eligible for low-interest federal loans following severe weather that struck Iowa and surrounding areas in June.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture has made Farm Service Agency physical loss loans available to eligible producers in Atchison, Harrison, Mercer, Nodaway, Putnam and Worth counties.
The Missouri counties qualify because they border Iowa counties included in a federal disaster designation following severe thunderstorms, high winds and tornadoes on June 10 and 11.
Physical loss loans may be used to repair or replace property essential to an agricultural operation. Eligible losses can include farm buildings, equipment, livestock, perennial crops, fruit and nut trees, stored grain, harvested crops and hay.
Loan approval is based on the extent of the producer’s losses, available security and the applicant’s ability to repay the loan.
The deadline to apply is April 19, 2027.
Affected producers should contact their local USDA Service Center to report losses and determine whether they qualify. Additional information is available through the disaster assistance and loan tools at Farmers.gov.
