Opening Markets: Grains Higher, Livestock Waits

The Ranch Opening Markets — Wednesday, Aug. 26, 2026

Grain futures are trading higher in the overnight session, while the livestock pits have not opened yet. Livestock numbers below are the latest available Tuesday settlements.

Corn: December 2026 corn is near $5.28 1/4, up about 4 3/4 cents. Corn continues to find support after another drop in U.S. crop condition ratings and renewed concern that final yields may not match earlier expectations.

Soybeans: November 2026 soybeans are near $12.41 1/4, up about 3 1/2 cents. Beans are holding onto recent strength as traders weigh export demand and tighter production expectations against pressure from weaker soybean oil.

Chicago Wheat: December 2026 Chicago soft red winter wheat is around $7.11, up roughly 7 3/4 cents. Wheat is extending this week’s rebound as traders watch export demand and reduced U.S. production prospects.

Kansas City HRW Wheat: December 2026 hard red winter wheat last settled near $7.82 3/4, up about 12 cents Tuesday. The latest available quote is being used because a reliable current overnight update was not available at publication time. Tight hard red winter wheat supplies remain an underlying source of support.

Live Cattle: October 2026 live cattle last settled at about $210.95, down roughly $2.65 Tuesday. The cattle market has not opened yet. Pressure has come from uncertainty around cattle supplies, border-related trade developments and softer futures sentiment.

Feeder Cattle: September 2026 feeders last settled near $319.28, down about $4.95. Feeder cattle have not opened yet. High input costs and sharp volatility in the cattle complex remain major drivers.

Lean Hogs: October 2026 lean hogs last settled near $80.45, down about 67 1/2 cents. Hogs have not opened yet. Futures remain under pressure even as the latest national base hog price improved.

Market quotes are delayed and may change quickly. Grain figures reflect the latest available overnight trade; livestock figures reflect the latest available settlement because those markets were not open at publication time.
