Survey Finds Corn and Soybean Growers Still Under Pressure

WASHINGTON — Higher corn and soybean prices have eased some concerns, but many growers say production costs continue to squeeze their margins, according to a new survey released by the National Corn Growers Association and American Soybean Association.

Farm Journal surveyed 1,200 corn and soybean growers for the report. Nearly two-thirds said they were moderately or very concerned about the farm economy. Forty-six percent said they were more concerned about their farm finances than they were a year ago.

Both measures improved from a similar survey in 2025. Still, the groups say recent gains in crop prices may offer little relief to farmers facing high fertilizer, fuel, energy and other input costs. The price a grower receives also depends on when the crop is marketed, so not every farm will benefit equally from a stronger market.

The survey reflects growers’ views of their finances; it does not measure the profit or loss on individual farms.
