Closing Markets: Hogs Rally as Wheat Retreats

Monday, August 31, 2026

Monday trade finished mixed across the grain complex while livestock futures moved higher.

Corn: December corn settled at $5.37 3/4 per bushel, up 1 1/4 cents. Corn held onto a modest gain as traders balanced strong speculative interest against expectations for a large U.S. crop.

Soybeans: November soybeans finished at $12.88, unchanged on the day. Soybeans held near Friday’s strong close with export demand providing support while traders continued to watch U.S. crop prospects.

Chicago Wheat: December Chicago wheat closed at $7.74, down 10 cents. Wheat gave back part of last week’s sharp rally as traders took profits following the market’s climb to three-year highs. Black Sea export concerns remain an underlying source of support.

Kansas City HRW Wheat: December Kansas City hard red winter wheat settled at $8.38, down 6 1/4 cents, following the broader wheat market lower after last week’s geopolitical rally.

Live Cattle: October live cattle closed at $212.67 per hundredweight, up 95 cents. Cattle futures started the week higher as the market attempted to stabilize following recent pressure.

Feeder Cattle: October feeder cattle settled at $317.02, up 50 cents. Feeders posted a modest rebound alongside live cattle.

Lean Hogs: October lean hogs jumped $1.77 to $83.67 per hundredweight, finishing near the session high and reaching a three-week high. Technical buying helped drive the strong start to the week.

That’s Monday’s Closing Markets from The Ranch.
