Shelby County Faces Overnight Freeze Warning

SHELBYVILLE, Mo. — Shelby County farmers and rural residents should prepare for freezing temperatures overnight Friday as a National Weather Service freeze warning takes effect at midnight.

The warning continues until 8 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 7. The St. Louis weather office says temperatures could fall as low as 30 degrees within its warning area.

Frost and freezing conditions could damage crops and sensitive vegetation and possibly harm unprotected outdoor plumbing, according to the weather service.

The warning also includes Knox, Lewis, Marion, Monroe, Ralls and Pike counties, along with additional areas of Missouri and Illinois. Adams County, Illinois, including Quincy, is covered.

A separate warning from the Kansas City/Pleasant Hill office covers Macon, Adair, Linn, Sullivan, Putnam and Schuyler counties, among others, with temperatures as low as 29 degrees expected.

The weather service urges residents to protect tender plants before the cold arrives. Rural property owners should also check exposed outdoor water connections and other plumbing vulnerable to freezing.

The warning was issued early Friday. Its effective period begins at midnight Friday night, the start of Saturday, and ends at 8 a.m. Central.
