Opening Markets: Corn Higher, Wheat Pulls Back

The Ranch Opening Markets — Monday, Aug. 31, 2026

Grain trade is mixed early Monday after Friday’s strong finish. Corn is holding modest gains, soybeans are nearly steady, and wheat is giving back part of last week’s sharp rally. Livestock futures have not opened for Monday, so those figures are Friday’s latest verified settlements.

Corn: December 2026 corn is near $5.38 3/4, up about 2 1/4 cents in early trade. Export demand is supportive while traders continue to weigh crop prospects.

Soybeans: November 2026 soybeans are near $12.87 3/4, down about 1/4 cent. Strong new-crop export sales remain supportive after Friday’s rally.

Chicago Wheat: December 2026 Chicago wheat is near $7.76 1/2, down about 7 1/2 cents. Profit-taking is weighing on wheat after last week’s rally, while Black Sea export disruptions remain supportive.

Kansas City HRW Wheat: December 2026 hard red winter wheat is near $8.37 3/4, down about 6 1/2 cents. The market is pulling back after last week’s surge.

Live Cattle: October 2026 live cattle have not opened for Monday trade. Friday’s latest verified settlement was $211.73, down about $1.20.

Feeder Cattle: Monday trade has not opened. Friday’s latest verified active-contract quote was near $316.52, down about $1.55.

Lean Hogs: October 2026 lean hogs have not opened for Monday trade. Friday’s verified settlement was $81.90, up about $1.28.

Market quotes are delayed and can change quickly. Grain figures reflect Monday’s latest available early trade. Livestock figures are Friday settlements because Monday livestock trading had not opened at publication time.
