NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Texas country singer Josh Weathers reached a career milestone Saturday night when he made his Grand Ole Opry debut.
Weathers stepped into the famous wooden circle at the Grand Ole Opry House on Aug. 15. His appearance came during the Opry’s ongoing 100th anniversary celebration.
The Fort Worth artist performed one of his own songs before delivering a commanding version of Dolly Parton’s “I Will Always Love You.” Video from the performance quickly began circulating among Texas and independent country music fans.
The debut placed Weathers on a bill featuring Opry members The Oak Ridge Boys, Suzy Bogguss and Gary Mule Deer. Joy Oladokun, Maggie Rose, Monte Warden and DEK of Hearts also appeared during the Saturday night show. Grand Ole Opry
Weathers announced the invitation in July and described the opportunity as an honor of a lifetime. He also thanked the fans who supported him throughout his career.
The appearance marked another major step for an artist who has spent years building a following through Texas clubs, festivals and high-energy live shows.
Weathers combines country music with elements of Southern soul, gospel, funk and rock ’n’ roll. That sound and his powerful vocals have helped him stand apart in the Texas music scene.
His latest album, Neon Never Fades, arrived in January. Weathers has also signed a publishing agreement with Nashville-based Sea Gayle Music.
Away from the stage, Weathers and his wife have worked to fight human trafficking and provide assistance to children in India and El Salvador. He stepped away from heavy touring for a period to focus on that mission before returning to music.
