WASHINGTON — Six additional meat and poultry processors have signed on to USDA’s voluntary Product of USA labeling program, expanding an initiative designed to help consumers identify meat products that come entirely from animals born, raised, harvested and processed in the United States.
Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins announced the latest additions, saying the label continues to gain support from processors responding to consumer demand for clear country of origin information.
“Product of the USA label is a win for American farmers, ranchers, processors, and consumers alike, and we are continuing to see companies respond to this demand,” Rollins said. “American consumers want to know where their food comes from, and they deserve labels they can trust.”
The newest companies adopting the label are:
- Creekstone Farms of Kansas
- Caviness Beef Packers
- CS Beef Packers of Texas
- Greener Pastures of Texas
- Lone Star Beef Processors of Texas
- Claxton Poultry Farms of Georgia
USDA says products displaying the voluntary label must come from livestock or poultry that were born, raised, harvested and processed in the United States, giving shoppers confidence they are purchasing American-produced meat.
The department said the program is part of a broader effort to strengthen domestic livestock production and expand market opportunities for U.S. farmers, ranchers and meat processors.
USDA also highlighted its Strengthening Processing for U.S. Ranchers (SPUR) program, which provides $500 million to help eligible small and midsized beef processors preserve or expand processing capacity. The agency says the processing investments, combined with wider adoption of the Product of USA label, are intended to strengthen the nation’s meat supply chain and improve marketing opportunities for American producers.
USDA expects additional meat and poultry processors to adopt the voluntary label as interest from both consumers and the industry continues to grow.
